The University of the Southwest Cross-Country team traveled to nearby Levelland, TX to compete in the South Plains College Cross Country Invite. It was the third meet of the year for both the Men's and Women's teams. Four teams were competing in the meet and the three other than USW were New Mexico Junior College, Wayland Baptist, and the host South Plains College. The Men ran an 8k at the event and the women ran a 5k. Some exciting things came out of the event for the Mustangs.

Women:
The Women finished in 4
th as a team against a tough field but saw some impressive individual performances. Freshman
Samantha Jasso finished 9
th with a time of 20:32, and her sister
Genevieve Jasso finished 15
th with a time of 23:17. Senior
Lorena Gonzalez finished with a time of 24:43,
Lizette Hernandez finished at 24:57 and Ashley Waterman finished with a time of 34:52.
Samantha Jasso Moved into 8
th all time in USW women's history with her time and all of the ladies ran a season-best at the meet.Â

Men:Â
The Men finished 3
rd as a team in the meet against the quality competition. Freshman
Guadalupe Garcia led the Way for the Mustangs with a 12
th place finish and a time of 29:38.
Armando Hernandez finished with a time of 30:38,
Peter Lucio ran a time of 33:08, Emmanuel Esparza a 33:48, and
Cael Denetdeel a 41:31.Â

Tony Skiles said about the meet "It was a great day overall." The Mustangs will look to continue the improvements shown in this meet when they run next. Their next meet will be hosted by Lubbock Christian University next Saturday, October 9
