WVB: Seven Mustangs Make All-Conference Teams

The Red River Athletic conference announced their player of the year awards and All-Conference teams last night as they get ready for the first round of the RRAC Volleyball Championship today. There were seven Mustangs honored by the conference for their outstanding performance this year. The seven Mustangs that were honored were Alexia Esparza, Autumn Lopez, Alissa Mancera, Fesili Masaniai, Kennedy McRuffin, Isabella Molina, and Desirae Ramirez.
 
Alexia Esparza, a junior outside hitter from El Paso, TX, was named to the first team. Esparza was fourth in the conference in kills per set at 2.84 and second in kills with 258, both of which led the Mustangs. She was named to a member of the second team a year ago. 
 
Autumn Lopez, a senior defensive specialist from San Antonio, TX, was also named a member of the first team for the second consecutive year. She was number one in the conference in digs per set in conference games at 4.86, first in digs in conference games at 214, and had 29 service aces which were second in the conference.
 
Alissa Mancera, a freshman setter from El Paso, TX, was named to the second team. She finished the regular season with 347 assists and 3.954 assists per set, both of which led the team. Mancera also had 25 serving aces and 127 digs on the year. An impressive opening campaign from the freshman. 
 
Fesili Masaniai, a junior out of San Antonio, TX, was named to the honorable mention team in her first year with the program after transferring in from Temple College. The impressive transfer has 147 kills on the year and 1.62 kills per set which are both second on the team. She had 34 total blocks and 170 points on the year which are both second on the team. 
 
Kennedy McRuffin, a senior defensive specialist from Red Oak, TX, was also named to the honorable mention team after being named the newcomer of the year and honorable mention last year. McRuffin was second on the team with 193 digs and 2.3 digs per set. She led the conference in service aces in conference games with 24.
 
Isabella Molina, a freshman middle blocker from El Paso, TX, was also named to the honorable mention team for her stellar freshman campaign.  She had 40 blocks on the year which was fifth in the conference and first on the team. She was able to total 118 kills, 163 points, and 17 serving aces on the year.
 
Desirae Ramirez, a junior defensive specialist from Austin, TX, was named to the Champions of Character Team. Ramirez played in 18 matches and 31 sets this year and was able to total 5 service aces and 14 digs on the year. She exemplified what it meant to be a Mustang on and off the floor.
 
The Mustangs will look to continue their impressive season under first-year head coach Cass Smith as they take on Wiley College in the opening round of the RRAC Volleyball Championship today at 10:00 AM MST.
