The University of the Southwest Women's Basketball team hosted a pair of RRAC foes from Louisiana this past weekend. This would be the second to last weekend of the regular season. USW would drop both contests with a 42-77 loss to Louisiana State University Shreveport and a 65-78 loss to Louisiana State University Alexandria on Senior Day.
Â
LSUS
Â
The first half was controlled for the most part by Shreveport, with the Mustangs only scoring 13 points in the first half while Shreveport scored 38.Â
Â
After a slow start, the Lady Mustangs aimed for a strong start in the second half. USW would outscore LSUS 19-18 in the third quarter.Â
Â
Still, with some ground to makeup, the Lady Mustangs needed a big fourth quarter. Unfortunately, LSUS would have themselves a strong quarter, outscoring USW 21-10 and taking the game by a final score of 77-42.
Â
Sierra Smith led the way for USW, posting a double-double with 15 points and 20 rebounds. Junior
Tamaria White added eight points, four rebounds, and two steals on the day.
Â
LSUA
Â
The Lady Mustangs took on Louisiana State University Alexandria for Senior Day.Â
Â
The contest started off close, with the Mustangs only trailing six after the first quarter. The second quarter was similar and saw the Lady Mustangs hanging tight with LSUA, going into the half down by eight.Â
Â
In the third quarter, Alexandria was able to create a cushion for themselves as they were able to score 30 points and hold USW to only 19.Â
Â
The Lady Stangs were able to put together a solid fourth quarter by outscoring their opponent 18-11. The deficit would be too much, though, as USW would drop their final home game 78-65.Â
Â
Senior
Kenedi Tanks led the scoring for USW with 15 points and added eight rebounds. Junior
Tiayana Williams had 14 points on the day. Senior
Sierra Smith hit the boards hard once again with 18 rebounds and seven points.Â
