Hobbs- On the behalf of the athletic department I would like to Introduce our new head women's basketball coach Steven Barker.  

Coach Barker was the assistant men's basketball coach at Seminole State college in Seminole, Oklahoma from 2020-2022, assistant men's coach at Mayville State University in Mayville, North Dakota from 2022-2023, and the assistant women's basketball coach at Talladega College in Talladega, Alabama this past season 2023-2024.  

Athletic Director Steve Appel had this to say about coach Barker, "I am excited to see what is in store for our women's basketball program.  Coach Barker is coming in with some great energy and passion for the sport and the willingness to work hard for his female student athletes.  Coach Barker fits in well with our mission of the university and he has already hit the ground running.  I am anxious to finally get him here on campus to start working with his athletes.  The University of the Southwest welcomes Coach Barker to Hobbs, America and to the Mustang Family!"
