PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The University of the Southwest men's basketball team put together a strong second-half effort but came up short, falling 93-77 to Nelson University, Arizona, on Saturday afternoon at the Warriors' home court.

Southwest faced an uphill battle after Nelson shot 62.2% in the first half, building a 57–34 lead at the break. The Mustangs responded with 43 second-half points, improving their shooting to 51.3%, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

Leading the Mustangs was EJay Scroggins with 17 points and four rebounds, Isaac Warhurst with 16 points off the bench and Donovan Holcombe with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Southwest finished the game shooting 47.8% from the field and scored 44 points in the paint, matching Nelson inside. The Mustangs also received 28 points from the bench, but Nelson's hot perimeter shooting (13-of-31 from three) and 23 assists fueled their win.

Southwest returns to action next week as conference play begins against the University of North Texas at Dallas.
