PLAINVIEW, Texas – The University of the Southwest women's soccer team battled back in the second half, scoring twice against undefeated Wayland Baptist, but ultimately fell 4-2 on Wednesday evening in Plainview, Texas.

After falling behind 2-0 in the opening half, the Mustangs regrouped and generated more chances after the break. Wayland Baptist extended its lead to 3-0 in the 46th minute, but senior Michelle Perez quickly answered with her first goal of the season less than four minutes later, slotting home a finish in the 50th minute to put USW on the board.

The momentum continued to swing the Mustangs' way as Giselle Villa capitalized on a well-placed assist from Jadyn Duran in the 68th minute, cutting the deficit to just one goal at 3-2. The rally energized the squad, with USW outshooting Wayland 6-7 in the second half and pressing for the equalizer.

Despite the push, the Pioneers sealed the match with a late goal in the 89th minute.

In total, the Mustangs tallied eight shots with six on target, led by Perez, Villa, Hannah Davila, and Joanna Estrada. Goalkeeper Elena Moya played all 90 minutes and recorded four saves while facing 15 shots from the Pioneers.

The Lady Mustangs (0-4-0) will look to build on their strong second-half performance as they prepare for their next match on Friday, September 5, at Oklahoma Panhandle State.
