PINEVILLE, La. — The University of the Southwest men's basketball team delivered a resilient road performance Saturday afternoon, earning an 81–76 victory over Louisiana Christian inside H.O. West Fieldhouse. The Mustangs improved to 5–13 overall and 2–10 in conference play with the win.
Southwest showcased a balanced offensive attack and a strong second‑half surge, shooting 58.3% from the field in the final 20 minutes to outscore the Wildcats 53–45 after trailing at halftime. For the game, the Mustangs finished 47.3% from the floor and an impressive 40% from three‑point range.
EJay Scroggins led the Mustangs with a standout 31‑point, 10‑rebound double‑double, going 11–20 from the field and adding four assists and four steals in a dominant 40‑minute effort. Jayvian Lawson followed with 15 points, including four made three‑pointers, while also contributing four assists and two steals. Jalen Williams added 12 points, and Grant Hickey and Steven Masini each recorded 8 points, with Hickey pulling down a team‑high 7 rebounds.
Southwest capitalized on its opportunities at the free‑throw line, finishing 21–30 and knocking down key late‑game attempts to maintain control. The Mustangs also won the rebounding battle decisively, 37–25, and scored 17 points off 14 Louisiana Christian turnovers.
Defensively, Southwest held the Wildcats to just two second‑chance points and forced timely stops down the stretch. Despite Louisiana Christian shooting over 50% from the field, the Mustangs' ability to convert turnovers, control the boards, and execute offensively in the second half secured the victory.
With the win, Southwest returns home carrying momentum into its next conference matchup.
