HOBBS, N.M. – The University of the Southwest women's basketball team couldn't find its rhythm offensively and fell 80-54 to UNT Dallas on Saturday afternoon at the Jack & Mabel Maddox Student Life Center. The Mustangs drop to 4-10 overall and 2-3 in conference play, while UNT Dallas improves to 5-5.

Southwest shot just 22.9% from the field for the game, despite hitting 9-of-19 from three-point range (47.4%). The Mustangs were out-rebounded 59-34 and gave up 21 second-chance points, which proved costly. UNT Dallas controlled the paint with 22 points inside and converted 16 points off turnovers.

Alliah Scallion led Southwest with 18 points and 10 rebounds, showing grit on both ends of the floor. Karinna Ortiz added 16 points, including four three-pointers, while Macie Werdel chipped in 9 points and three triples. Seniya Wilson contributed 7 points and 4 steals, providing defensive energy.

Southwest's best stretch came in the second quarter, where they scored 18 points and cut the deficit to single digits briefly. However, UNT Dallas responded with balanced scoring and strong rebounding to pull away, building a lead as large as 33 points late in the fourth quarter.

The Mustangs will look to regroup and capitalize on their perimeter shooting in the next matchup as conference play continues.
