AMARILLO, Texas — The University of the Southwest women's golf team closed out competition at the Top of Texas tournament on Tuesday, earning a fifth‑place team finish after three rounds at Tascosa Golf Club. The Lady Mustangs posted scores of 357–346–358 for a three‑day total of 1,061, improving during Monday's double‑round before wrapping up the event in Tuesday's finale.
Southwest opened the tournament with a 357 in round one. Gabrielle Perez led the way with an 82, while Sophia Vidal followed closely with an 83. Katelyn Morris (95), Stephanie Smith (97), and Jada Dickson (100) rounded out the opening‑round scores.
The Lady Mustangs delivered their strongest performance of the tournament in Monday's second round, improving by 11 strokes for a 346. Vidal produced Southwest's best round of the week with an 81, and Smith added an 85 to help fuel the team's mid‑tournament push. Perez carded an 88, while Dickson (92) and Morris (103) contributed to the Mustangs' steady upward momentum heading into the final day.
In Tuesday's final round, Southwest closed with a 358, highlighted by Perez's team‑low 87, which included a 40 on the front nine. Smith posted an 88, and Vidal added an 89 to keep Southwest firmly in fifth place. Dickson recorded a 94, and Morris finished with a 99.
Perez and Vidal led the Mustangs individually, finishing in the top 20 for the tournament. Perez (T-18th) posted rounds of 82‑88‑87, while Vidal (15th) turned in 83‑81‑89 across the three rounds. Smith (23rd) finished at 270, Dickson (27th) at 286, and Morris (30th) at 297.
