WILLOW PARK, Texas — The University of the Southwest women's golf team completed play at the 2026 TXWES Spring Invitational on Tuesday, finishing fifth overall at Squaw Creek Golf Club after three rounds of competition. The Lady Mustangs posted a team total of +144, carding rounds of +49 and +44 on Monday, followed by a +51 in the final round on Tuesday.
Southwest opened the tournament with a competitive showing in the opening two rounds, staying within striking distance of the field as several Mustangs delivered consistent performances across the 36 holes. Gabrielle Perez led Southwest on day one with rounds of 79 and 79, positioning herself as the team's low scorer heading into the final round. She was joined by steady contributions from Sophia Vidal, Stephanie Smith, Jada Dickson, and Lucy Garza, as the Mustangs navigated the demanding Squaw Creek layout.
In Tuesday's final round, Southwest continued to battle through challenging course conditions. Perez once again paced the Mustangs, closing the tournament tied for 17th with an 81 (+9) to finish at +23 overall, the lowest total on the team. Vidal followed with a final-round 82, completing the event at +34. Dickson and Garza each posted rounds of 88, while Smith rounded out the lineup with an 89.
Competing against a strong field that featured host Texas Wesleyan, Wayland Baptist, and Weatherford, the Mustangs' fifth-place finish reflected the team's resilience and depth across all three rounds. Southwest will look to build on the experience gained at the TXWES Spring Invitational as they head into the CAC tournament on April 27.
