Lady Mustangs Wrap Up Play at Battling in the Desert

HOBBS, N.M. – The University of the Southwest women's golf team concluded its home tournament Tuesday at Rockwind Community Links Golf Course after battling through 54 holes over two days. The Lady Mustangs fielded both a varsity squad and a Southwest B team, with the varsity team finishing ninth overall and the B team placing 13th in a competitive field.

The varsity Mustangs posted team scores of 326 (+38) in round one, 324 (+36) in round two, and 330 (+42) in the final round to finish the tournament at +116.

Leading the way for Southwest was Gabrielle Perez, who finished tied for 24th overall at +16. Perez was remarkably consistent throughout the event, carding rounds of 76, 79, and 77. Her final round included birdies on holes No. 4 and No. 18 as she closed the tournament with the lowest total among the Mustangs.

Sophia Vidal finished tied for 40th at +30. After opening with an 83, Vidal bounced back with one of the team's best rounds of the tournament, a 77 in round two that featured birdies on holes No. 4, No. 7, and No. 16. She closed the event with an 86 on Tuesday.

Jada Dickson placed 49th overall at +36, firing rounds of 85, 83, and 84. Dickson highlighted her tournament with a birdie on No. 5 during the final round and improved her score in both rounds after Monday's opener.

Stephanie Smith finished tied for 51st at +39, recording rounds of 82, 86, and 87, while Karoline Franco placed 56th at +42. Franco showed steady improvement throughout the event with rounds of 90, 85, and 83, lowering her score in each round and collecting birdies on holes No. 15 during round two and No. 17 in the final round.

The Southwest B squad finished the tournament at +278 with rounds of 378 (+90), 382 (+94), and 382 (+94).

Annika Armendariz led the B team and finished tied for 59th overall at +45. After opening with an 88, Armendariz posted back-to-back rounds of 81 before closing with a 92 in Tuesday's final round.

Katelyn Morris finished 69th at +64, carding rounds of 86, 100, and 94. Aiyana Munoz placed 71st at +77 after rounds of 97, 101, and 95, while Kylie Bradford rounded out the B team in 72nd place at +92 with rounds of 107, 100, and 101.

As a team, Southwest gained valuable experience against a strong field led by New Mexico Junior College, which captured the tournament championship at +4. Odessa College finished second at +35, while McLennan Community College placed third at +38.
