The University of the Southwest Cross-Country team went to Lubbock, TX on Saturday for the Lubbock Christian University Course Preview. The men participated in an 8k and the women participated in a 5k. There were eight schools from various levels represented at the meet. The represented included the University of Texas-Permian Basin, Lubbock Christian, Western Texas College, Fort Lewis, Clarendon, Eastern New Mexico, Oklahoma Panhandle State, and Southwest. There were 52 individuals represented on the men's side and 52 represented on the women's side.
Men: The men finished 7
th overall in the team competition against a talented field. They were paced by Freshman
Guadalupe Garcia who finished 24
th with a time of 28:26. The time put Garcia into 10
th place all-time in the history of the men's program. Freshman
Armando Hernandez was right on his heels and finished 28
th with a time of 28:54. Freshman
Peter Lucio finished with a time of 32:24, Freshman
Emanuel Esparza at 36:19, and Freshman
Cael Denetdeel at 40:22.
Women: The Mustang women finished in 6
th place in the team competition. They were paced again by Freshman
Samantha Jasso who finished 17
th with a time of 21:12. Fellow Freshman,
Genevieve Jasso, finished with a time of 24:52. Another freshman,
Lizette Hernandez, came across at 26:40. Senior
Lorena Gonzalez crossed the finish line with a time of 27:52. Ashley Waterman finished with a time of 37:13.

Armando Hernandez both had broken out races with both breaking 29 minutes for the first times in their young careers."
The Men will be back in action at McMurry University on October 16
th at 9 AM. The women will also be in action on the 16
th at NMJC with the race starting at 10 AM.
