WSOC: Lady Mustangs Secure 2nd Seed in RRAC Tournament

The University of the Southwest Women's Soccer Team finished up their regular season over the weekend. They finished conference play with a record of (8-2-1) and were (10-4-2) overall. The 8 wins in RRAC play were the most in program history and the 2nd place finish is the best regular-season finish in program history. The Mustangs will now hold a bye in the first round of the conference tournament and will play the highest remaining seed of the two winners of the first-round games. They will take on whoever that opponent may be on Thursday, November 11th at Eagle Field on the campus of Texas A&M Texarkana. If they were to advance, the championship would take place on Saturday the 13th on Eagle Field. 
 
As a team, the Mustangs racked up some impressive stats for the year. The team compiled an impressive 58 goals in 16 regular-season contests, which is eighteenth nationally and would put them 3rd in program history with at least one more game to play. They are averaging 3.63 goals per game which are 19th best in all of the NAIA. They have racked up 37 assists on the year which ranks 2nd in program history. They have allowed 29 goals or 1.81 goals per game to this point in the season. They scored 44 of their goals in conference play which puts them 2nd in the conference in goals scored in RRAC games. 
 
As far as individuals go, the Mustangs were led offensively by senior Priscilla Garcia who racked up 16 goals, 7 assists, and 39 points on the year. Her 16 goals and 39 points were both tied for 17th nationally and 3rd in the conference. Maya Sanchez and Jennifer Schroeder were 2nd and 3rd on the team with 10 and 8 goals respectively. Corrina Ortiz scored 4 goals while Emma Rocco, Sierra Saenz, and Josie Crump all had 3 goals. Mayeli Torres and Kimberly Nevarez each had 2 goals. Kayla Duran, Adriana Orwig, Makenzie Kleinsteuber, Adriana Guzman, and Lauren Zarate each had a goal apiece. As far as assists go, Jennifer Schroeder led the way with 8 assists which were 5th in the conference. Priscilla Garcia and Maya Sanchez both finished with 7 assists, Mayeli Torres finished with 5, and Makenzie Kleinsteuber had 2. Briana Brock, Kayla Duran, Emma Rocco, Adriane Guzman, Arlette Yanez, Karen Eliserio, Adriana Guzman, and Josie Crump all tallied 1 assist for the Mustangs potent offense. Freshman Goalkeeper Kristina Simpson played most of the minutes in goal this year racking up 63 saves, 4 shutouts, and 26 Goals allowed. The 63 saves were good for 5th in the conference. 
 
The Mustangs will have about a week and a half to get prepared for their November 11th semifinal matchup as they look to make a run at the RRAC Tournament Championship.
