The University of the Southwest Men's and Women's cross-country teams traveled just up the road to New Mexico Junior College to compete in the NMJC Invitational on Friday. This was the Mustang's second meet of the year and the first in their home state.
The men were led by a trio of young freshmen who all ran their first 8k in their college careers. Guadalupe Garcia paced the Mustangs with a time of 29:09 which placed him 34th in the meet. Following him was Armando Hernandez who finished with a time of 30:32 which was good enough for 45th place. Rounding out the men's team was Peter Lucio who finished with a time of 31:56 which placed him 50th in the meet.
The women were also led by a strong trio of freshmen starting with Samantha Jasso who placed 28th with a time of 22:41 in the 5k. Following her was her sister Genevieve Jasso with a time of 26:03 with was good enough for 49th place. Rounding out the women's team was Lorena Gonzalez who placed 50th with a time of 26:57.
Both team's next meet will be on October 2nd at South Plains College in Levelland, Tx, as they both look to continue their hot start to the season.
