Lady Mustangs Fall on the Road to Southwestern Christian

University of the Southwest women's soccer team falls 7-2 to Southwestern Christian

Bethany, Okla. — The University of the Southwest women's soccer team closed out its first back-to-back road contest Saturday afternoon against Southwestern Christian University, ultimately falling 7-2 at Brian Harvey Field.

Southwestern Christian struck early, building a 3-0 lead by halftime behind two goals from Abbigail Johnson and one from Riley Stanfill. The Eagles continued their offensive surge in the second half, adding four more goals to seal the win.

Despite the deficit, Southwest showed resilience in the second half. Freshman, Eliza Lopez, netted her first collegiate goal in the 69th minute, followed by a strike from Giselle Villa in the 78th minute to bring the Lady Mustangs within reach. Southwest finished with six total shots, four on goal.

Goalkeeper Elena Moya recorded five saves in 81 minutes of action before Genesis Davila took over in the final stretch. The Mustangs were outshot 16-6 and committed 15 fouls in a physical battle that saw both teams trade possession and momentum.

The Lady Mustangs will return home for the first time this season on Thursday, August 28 to face Eastern New Mexico University at 1 p.m. MDT.
