Southwest Battles Hard in 1-0 Setback at OPSU

Box Score

GOODWELL, Okla. — The University of the Southwest women's soccer team dropped a tightly contested match on Friday afternoon, falling 1-0 to Oklahoma Panhandle State at Carl Wooten Field.

The Mustangs (0-5-0) held their own in a physical and competitive game, conceding the lone goal in the 34th minute when OPSU's Emma Daskalov scored off a corner kick assist from Emily Chavez.

Southwest recorded eight shots, three of which were on goal, with Hannah Davila leading the offensive effort. Goalkeeper Elena Moya made five saves to keep the Mustangs within striking distance throughout the match.

The second half saw increased intensity and several disciplinary actions, including four red cards issued to Southwest players in the final minute and two to OPSU earlier in the half. Both teams also received yellow cards as tensions rose late in the game.

Southwest showed resilience and created opportunities, especially in the second half, where they matched OPSU in shots (7-7) and corner kicks (3-3).

The Mustangs will look to build on this performance as they prepare for their next contest at Sul Ross State on September 13 at 1 p.m. (MT).
