SILVIS, Ill. — The University of the Southwest Mustangs concluded their 2026 season this week at the 74th-Annual NAIA Men's Golf National Championship, competing in two rounds at TPC Deere Run before missing the cut for the final round. The appearance marks the program's second consecutive trip to the national stage and follows a Red River Athletic Conference Championship earlier this spring.
Southwest opened tournament play on Tuesday with a solid showing, posting a team score of 296 (+16) in round one. The Mustangs were led by Konner Iglehart, who paced the lineup with a composed 2-over-par 72. Jayden Romig followed with a 73 (+3), while Jorge Molinar III added a 74 (+4) to give Southwest three scores in the mid-70s.
Jesse Valdez carded a 77 (+7), and Christian Martinez rounded out the group with an 85 (+15) as the Mustangs navigated a demanding course setup in the tournament's opening round.
Returning to the course Wednesday with sights set on advancing, the Mustangs battled through a tougher scoring day in round two, finishing with a 310 (+30). Molinar III led the team with a 75 (+5), completing the tournament as one of Southwest's most consistent performers across both rounds.
Iglehart followed with a 77 (+7), while Martinez improved from his opening round to post a 78 (+8). Romig added an 80 (+10) and Valdez finished with an 81 (+11) as the Mustangs pushed through challenging windy conditions down the stretch.
Southwest concluded the championship with a two-round total of +46, finishing 24th overall in the national field and just outside the cut line for Thursday's final round.
Although the Mustangs' season comes to a close, the team's back-to-back appearances at the NAIA National Championship highlight continued growth and consistency for the program. Combined with their conference title run, Southwest once again demonstrated its ability to compete among the nation's top teams.
The Mustangs will carry valuable experience from the national stage into the offseason as they look to build on another successful year in Hobbs.
