HOBBS, N.M. — The University of the Southwest men's golf team delivered another championship-caliber performance at the Red River Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship, capturing the team title for the second consecutive season at Rockwind Community Links Golf Course and crowning an individual conference champion.
The three‑round championship opened on Monday, with the Mustangs setting the pace early through consistent play across the lineup. Jesse Valdez paced the field in round one, positioning himself atop the leaderboard, while Konner Iglehart and Jorge Molinar III each posted strong opening rounds to keep Southwest firmly in contention. The Mustangs' balanced scoring established an early team advantage.
On Tuesday, Southwest continued to build momentum in round two. Valdez delivered one of the low rounds of the day, tightening his grip on the individual lead. Molinar III improved his position with steady ball‑striking and scoring consistency, while Iglehart remained within striking distance of the podium. Jayden Romig and Christian Martinez each contributed key rounds to keep the Mustangs ahead in the team standings heading into the final day.
The Mustangs sealed their second straight RRAC Championship on Wednesday with a composed and confident final round. Valdez rose to the moment once again, closing the tournament to secure the RRAC Men's Golf Individual Championship and cap off a dominant three‑day performance. Iglehart surged late, finishing third overall, while Molinar III capped a strong and steady week with a fifth‑place finish. Romig and Martinez battled through the final round and both earned top‑15 finishes, tying for 14th in the field.
With five golfers placing inside the top 15 and an individual champion leading the way, Southwest made program history while it showcased its depth, consistency, and championship mindset throughout the three‑day event, successfully defending its conference crown.
The Mustangs will head to Nationals for the second consecutive year establishing a prominence in the conference.
