VICTORIA, Texas – University of the Southwest women's soccer used a balanced attack and earned a hard-fought 2-0 win at Houston-Victoria Saturday afternoon in Red River Athletic Conference action.
It was USW's first win over UHV since 2010.
"This was a good win. There were about 10 minutes in the first half where we seemed out of sync but the girls came back in the second half and dominated," USW head coach
Joshua Smith said following the match. "It was great to see the girls implement the adjustments we needed to after playing St. Thomas."

Naomi Morales received a pass from freshman
Karla Parra and buried it home and the Mustangs (8-2, 2-2 RRAC) went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

Savannah Villegas scored an insurance goal at 52:38 in the second half and USW closed out UHV (2-5, 1-3 RRAC).
Morales was pleased how her teammates responded from the setback at St. Thomas on Thursday.
"After our loss at St. Thomas the team was eager for a win and we fought through and got it in this game," she said. "Each game we keep getting better and stronger and learning from our mistakes. I'm excited for the rest of the season."
Villegas added a game-high six shots, while Morales chipped in with two.
The shot count was even at 11-11.

Brittany Garrido stopped four shots to earn the shutout.
USW returns home for a pair of conference games. The Mustangs host Our Lady of the Lake on Thursday, October 12 and Huston-Tillotson on Saturday, October 14.
