The University of the Southwest Men's Golf team headed to Odessa, Texas on Friday, October 29
th to take part in the Ted & Jodi Hogan Intercollegiate event at Ratliff Ranch Golf Links. The event was the final one of the Fall for the Men's team and they performed very admirably. The event was an individual competition that showcased players from Odessa Community College, Texas A&M San Antonio, as well as Southwest. Overall, there were 19 participants from the three different schools represented. The course had a par of 72 and a yardage of 6957.
Results: The Team played exceptionally well in the event, having 1 player in the top 5 and 4 overall players in the top 10 of the tournament. The Mustangs were led by
Dayton Price who shot (73-73) that was good enough for a top 5 finish. Only one shot behind him was Senior
Justin Pastiney who shot (74-73) and fellow Freshman
Mauricio Sanchez (71-76) both finishing T6.
Hayden Underhill also finished in the top 10, finishing T9 with scores of (74-74).
Other Mustangs playing in the event were
Tiago Sousa (82-75) and
Jackson Zinn (80-82).
After the event Head Coach,
Tyler James was happy with how the team finished the Fall saying "I am very excited and pleased with the way the men played. We know we could have done better, but we are becoming more and more consistent as we go. The team is looking forward to the offseason and building upon the fall success we've had heading into Conference season in the spring."
The team now focuses its attention on the Spring conference schedule hoping to build off a successful Fall slate.
