IDLAND, TX---The Mustang Golf programs competed in the TankLogix Collegiate in Midland, TX on Tuesday and Wednesday. The tournament was held at the Ranchlands Hills Golf Club. This was the very first tournament for the Lady Mustangs in almost a year and the 2nd tournament for the Men's program. The Lady Mustangs finished 3rd out of 4 teams in the event and the Men's program had 3 individuals compete.
"The ladies started this week with their first tournament in over a year" said Head Coach
Steve Landry. Though they were rusty and disappointed in their play, I think we got an accurate assessment of where their games are at and the areas we need to improve at moving forward. The Men played a firm and fast golf course, something we aren't used to. Without a good practice round due to weather on Monday, it was hard to pick good lines off the tee and get a good feel for the green speeds."
Sydni Hill led the way for the Lady Mustangs shooting 90 and 95 for a total sore of 185, which put her in 10th place in the tournament.
Iris Sedillo was right behind he shooting 88 and 98 for a total of 186. Freshman Rhiannon Aremandariz shot 196 total and
Karisa Raines was right behind her shooting a 201 for the tournament. Overall USW scored 768 for the team score which left them in 3rd place overall.
The Men who entered 3 individuals, had a better showing than the week before.
Boyd Kapalamoto shot 229 (+19) for the 3-round event which landed him T41 for the tournament out of 71 golfers.
Aaron Robledo (+29) and
Justin Pasitney (+34) rounded out the other 2 golfers.
The Mustangs are back in action this upcoming week as they head to Comanche Trace in Kerville, TX. "I look for them to get some really good work in the practice round as they have played here beofre. Everyone seems to grow a little bit each time they come off the golf course which is good to see." said Head Coach
Steve Landry.
