ALPINE, Texas — The Southwest women's soccer team dropped a 3–1 match to Sul Ross State on Saturday afternoon at Lobo Field in a non-conference matchup.
Sul Ross State opened the scoring less than a minute into the match, being the first on the board. Southwest responded quickly in the 13th minute when Giselle Villa found the back of the net to level the score at 1–1.
Despite a strong offensive effort from Southwest, Sul Ross regained the lead early in the second half with their second goal of the match. The Lady Lobos added a third goal in the 85th minute, scoring off a pass to secure the win.
Southwest outshot Sul Ross 22–10, including 14 shots on goal. Joanna Estrada led the Mustangs with six shots and five on target. The Lady Mustangs had a chance to equalize in the second half with a penalty kick, but Sul Ross goalkeeper made the save and finished the match with 13 total stops.
Junior goalkeeper Elena Moya recorded four saves for the match.
Southwest (0–6–0) will look to regroup as it prepares for the start of conference play against LSU-Alexandria on September 25.
