Lady Mustangs Battle Through Round One at Comanche Trace

KERRVILLE, Texas  — The University of the Southwest women's golf team wrapped up the first round of play Monday at The Club at Comanche Trace, opening competition in a field led by some strong programs. The Lady Mustangs finished the day in fourth place and will look to build momentum heading into Tuesday's final round.

Odessa College posted the low team score of the day at +9, followed by Our Lady of the Lake at +43 and St. Thomas (TX) at +64. Southwest closed round one at +66, keeping themselves within striking distance as the tournament shifts into its closing stretch.

On the individual leaderboard, Gabrielle Perez and Sophia Vidal delivered the top performances for USW, firing an 87 (+15) behind a steady stretch on the front nine. Vidal was able to secure her tie for 12th with Perez securing a birdie on her first hole of the day. Lucy Garza followed closely, turning in a round of 89 (+17), respectively. Stephanie Smith added a +19, and Jada Dickson rounded out the day with a +21.

Despite challenging greens and a demanding layout at Comanche Trace, the Mustangs showed resilience, piecing together key pars and navigating momentum swings with composure. With only one round remaining, the team will aim to tighten up its approach, capitalize on scoring opportunities, and climb the leaderboard.

Round two begins Tuesday morning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. (MST).
