HOBBS, N.M. — The University of the Southwest Lady Mustangs closed out the 2026 CAC Women's Championship with a strong second-place finish after two rounds at Rockwind Community Links Golf Course, turning in a steady performance on their home course to secure the program's conference runner-up result.
After opening the tournament on Monday with a team score of +65, the Lady Mustangs surged on Tuesday, carding a +54 in Round Two to finish the championship at +119, moving up one spot on the leaderboard and cementing second place overall behind Victoria BC (+92).
Southwest showed improvement across the lineup on the final day, highlighted by second-place finisher, Gabrielle Perez, who delivered the team's lowest round of the tournament. Perez followed up an opening-round 84 with a 6-over 78 on Tuesday, finishing the event at +18 and providing a consistent anchor for the lineup. Perez posted multiple birdies over the two days and rebounded well on the back nine in Round Two.
Sophia Vidal also made a strong move on the final day, improving her score by eight strokes from Round One. Vidal fired an 86 in Round Two, finishing at +36 for the tournament and climbing into a tie for 13th on the individual leaderboard.
Lucy Garza continued her steady play across both rounds, carding rounds of 90 and 87 to finish at +33, while Stephanie Smith posted a 91 in the final round to end the championship at +36. Jada Dickson rounded out the scoring for the Lady Mustangs, shooting 92 in Round Two after a 90 in the opening round.
Competing on familiar territory, the Lady Mustangs used course knowledge and consistency to separate themselves from the rest of the field, finishing ahead of OLLU (+122) and Texas A&M–Texarkana (+126). The runner-up finish marks a strong conclusion to the conference championship and showcases Southwest's depth and resilience across two demanding days of competition.
