Allan Navarro scored on a beautiful header at 49:04 in the second half, however, it wasn't enough as Wiley College defeated University of the Southwest 2-1 Friday afternoon in Red River Athletic Conference action.
Due to the recent rain Bob Moran Soccer Field was deemed unplayable and the match was moved to Hobbs High School.
"I thought we had a good game," USW head coach
Robert Ssejjemba said following the match. "We had good possession throughout the game, but unfortunately we were not able to capitalize on our opportunities to score more goals."
Wiley scored at 2:27 in the first half on an own goal and went into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.
Five minutes into the second half Navarro then received a fantastic pass from
Jack Laurie and buried it home to tie the game.
The Wildcats (5-0, 2-0 RRAC) scored at 84:10 to secure the decision.
USW (3-3-1, 0-1 RRAC) outshot WC 9-8, including a 6-4 margin in the first half.
The Mustangs return to action Sunday with a 2 p.m. bout against Texas A&M Texarkana.
