The University of the Southwest Men's Soccer Team was in Alpine Tx on Friday to take on Sul Ross State University. The University of the Southwest Men's Soccer team made their season debut against the Lobos and was looking to start the season on the right foot. The Mustangs showed they were the superior team right off the bat with
Richard Wohl scoring just two minutes into the game to make it 1-0, Millaivy Lopez would then make it 2-0 by scoring in the 38
th minute of the first half. The Mustangs recorded a total of 20 shots with 12 of them on goal. Sul Ross was unable to get on the scoring sheet due to a strong defensive game by the Mustangs back line. The Mustangs look to head on the road again to face a non-conference rivalry opponent Wayland Baptist University and hope to come back with back-to-back road wins.
    This is what Coach
Edgar Negrete had to say about Friday's matchup, "Going into the game this week was a little different. Our momentum changed and focused somewhere else. We had two of our starters in an accident that caused them to miss this game against Sul Ross. The team was United more than ever and we brought everyone together and told them that today's game was being played for our both starters who couldn't be there with us Niko and Omar. The boys went out there and played and got to score a goal right off the bat. Richard who Is one of our captains went out and scored the first goal to open the score. You can see in the boys' eyes they wanted this game more than anything and they challenged every ball and won almost every ball. The hunger and fight were there from our boys. Millaivy López was able to add a second one to put the game away and come away with a victory. I was super proud of the boys. We even got our first clean sheet of the season. But this victory is for Niko and Omar who we hope to see join us again back on the pitch. We play a very tough opponent Wayland Baptist on Wednesday, and we will do everything we can to prepare for that game. Hopefully, we can carry this momentum to the next game."
