Box Score HOBBS, N.M. -- Southwest Women's Soccer opened its home slate with a determined performance against Schreiner University on Sunday afternoon at Lovington High School due to weather damage. Despite a strong defensive showing and several offensive opportunities, the Lady Mustangs fell 3-0 in a competitive non-conference matchup.
Senior goalkeeper Elena Moya anchored the defense with two saves and played all 90 minutes. Moya's efforts kept Southwest within reach throughout the match, especially during a second-half surge that saw the Mustangs push forward with increased intensity.
Offensively, Michelle Perez led the charge with four shots, including two on goal, while Maureen Camacho added a quality chance in the 75th minute that forced a save from Schreiner's keeper. Southwest registered six total shots and two corner kicks.
Schreiner struck twice late in the first half, with goals from Abby Scott and Sarada Farnetti, both unassisted. The visitors added a third goal in the 75th minute courtesy of Haley Withers, sealing the result despite Southwest's late offensive push.
Southwest (0-3-0) will look to bounce back in its next match at Wayland Baptist on September 3.
