Men's Battle Back in Round Two of Texas Wesleyan Invite

WESTWORTH VILLAGE, Texas -- The University of the Southwest men's golf team delivered a strong performance on Monday, September 8. After a struggling start in round one, the Mustangs turned it around and came back strong in round two, shooting a school record 278. Southwest finished the day at the Texas Wesleyan Invite at Hawks Creek Golf Club,  tied for fifth place, carding a 2-over-par.

Junior Jayden Romig led the Mustangs in round one with an eagle to start off the first hole, carding a two-under-par (70), setting the tone early. Jesse Valdez, posted a steady three-over-par (73), came back stronger in round two. With six birdies in the front nine and two on the back nine, Valdez was the leading member to secure the school record.

Konner Iglehart followed Valdez in round two, with four birdies on the back nine, to secure a three-under-par (69) to close out day one.

The Mustangs are currently tied for 5th place with Texas A&M-Victoria, trailing only Blinn College (-19), Tyler JC (-14), and two Texas Wesleyan squads (-11 and +1). Southwest's two-round total of +2 reflects a strong team effort and a significant improvement in round two.

The Mustangs will return to the course on Tuesday for the final round, looking to build on their momentum and finish the tournament on a high note.
