WSOC: Texas Tech too much for Lady Mustangs

Box Score LUBBOCK, TX---The USW Lady Mustang Soccer program started their 2021 spring schedule on Friday night taking on Big-12 opponent Texas Tech University. This was the first match for the Lady Mustangs since November of 2019. USW fell 7-0 in the match, but Head Coach D'Angelo Garcia has a lot of positives to take away from the match. "I feel like the game went really well despite the score. Competing against a Power-5 school was no easy task. However, I was very pleased with the effort especially with it being our first game with new faces in the lineup. We had our special moments throughout the game, but Tech's athleticism was just too much. Playing at such an intense level throughout the whole game hopefully teachers us how to remain composed with high pressure offensively and defensively" said Garcia.

The Lady Mustangs will take on another NCAA opponent on Sunday, March 7th, as they travel to Odessa, TX to take on University of Texas-Permian Basin. Coach Garcia and company are hoping to take Friday's lessons and translate them into success as they move toward their conference schedule. "We learned so much about our ourselves" said Garcia. "I feel like we don't need to underestimate our capabilities at times. Even though we are young, we still have experienced players who know what it takes to win. Hopefully we can adapt to a similar level that Tech used against us and use it for our own advantage for when we compete our conference opponents. I am very excited to finally get the ball rolling and see what else this special team can do."
