BLANCHARD, Okla. -- The University of the Southwest women's golf team showed growth at the Winter Creek Golf and Country Club on Monday, sitting seventh overall with a team score of 92-over-par across two rounds, with one more to go on Tuesday.
After a challenging start in Round One with a score of 53-over-par, the Lady Mustangs bounced back in Round Two, shaving 14 strokes off their total to post a 39-over-par.Â
The Mustangs competed against a deep field including Texas Wesleyan, Oklahoma City, Blinn College, USAO and Redlands CC. Despite the competition, Southwest held its ground and outperformed Seminole State (OK), SW Christian, and Central Christian.
Sophia Vidal led the fight, sitting in 19th, carding an 18-over-par total on the day.
Gabrielle Perez, competing in her first tournament of the season, followed closely, carding a 20-over-par on the day.
Lucy Garza,
Stephanie Smith, and
Sarah Monaghen round out the team, carding a 21-over-par, 35-over-par, and 38-over-par on the day.
The Lady Mustangs will look to finish the final 18 holes on Tuesday to close out the final tournament of the fall season.
